driving along to badminton...
was supposed to go running this morning, but somehow... setting my alarm at 9am doesn't help much, because i just off-ed it and went back to sleep hahaha woke up around 11.30 again, and played my new computer game till 12.15 when i had lunch. then it started to rain, so i took a cab to the driving school. helped jessie deposit 2 bucks... JUST 2 BUCKS!!! into her account hahaha she needed 40 more cents to register for the test. wth man. damn funny. got to drive the new city model today. the ride height affects everything man. now vertical parking gotta make adjustments on the way in. but it's not that difficult. if i type it out here it'd be too confusing. today was also the first time i drove in the rain. when i got to the school it was POURING! but then by the time i started driving it was hardly drizzling hahaha would've preferred a heavier rain, then at least if it rains on my test i wouldn't be too freaked out, but then i guess this will have to do. didn't expect him to test me on e-brake, but he did.
the new city is really a much smoother car to drive than the old one. the old one has really sensitive pedals, so much so that after i do a whole round of clutch control, my right ankle gets kinda stiff, coz if u press the accelerator a little too hard the engine really revs, and if u let it go a little, the car stalls hahaha it's all about technique ;) the new city is really quiet, and the gear shifting is ssssooooo much smoother. have to say i didn't really lose touch after not driving for 2 weeks. but my next revision is 4 weeks away, so that'll be the real test. got 3 more such revisions until my test on 30th june. and wat really irritates me is that my pdl expires on the 27th of june. so i have to pay 25 more bucks just for those 3 extra days on my pdl. screwed up man. shall go down to the post office tomorrow to renew it. sucky system, but got no choice.
badminton tonight was cool. i seriously think how clean my specs are affects how i play hahaha damn lame right? but then at first when my specs were really clean all my smashes went in, and i thought i was possessed or something. then after a little break, i must've touched my lens or something, then there was sweat marks on it. my smashing totally screwed up hahaha smashed into the net and ground 4 times. then later i cleaned it, and everything worked out fine again :p my connection-between-badminton-and-specs theory lah hahaha
as of now i don't foresee myself failing driving, as i've always been better with more physical stuff than mental stuff, but we shall have to see at the end of june. DAMN far away, but what to do... too many cars on the road already lah, government using this as a form of "road tax"
it's already thursday. shall "serve the nation" in 8 days hahaha don't see how i haven't been serving the nation for the past 18+ years of my life, but this method is more obvious :p but before i "serve the nation"... thursday clean up OTHER room and renew pdl, friday going sentosa, saturday got birthday lunch with family and final class outing, sunday going sentosa, monday to wednesday got chalet, which leaves thursday, friday and saturday morning left unscheduled. hahaha should i slack at home? or go wild and run around town for fun... i'll think about that while i clean up my OTHER table.

2 consecutive days of sentosa...
been to sentosa 3 times this week man. something's going on hahaha must be the fact that i know i'll be enlisting in 2 weeks time, so i'm chionging more now. today's sun was the hottest thus far, but not the hottest i've ever experienced. somehow i have this very intense feeling that the sun will be BLAZING hot when i'm on tekong, but we shall see about that. now my arms and back are black again. my front if kinda fairer, coz when i turned my body around the sun kinda disappeared for most of the time hahaha but it's darker than yesterday. but at least i'm black again :)
but today still wasn't as good as i hoped it would've been lah. 1st of all my alarm clocked screwed up and DIDN'T RING!!! so i got up at 10.30 when we were supposed to meet at 10. damn jialat. then when i realised how bright the sun was, it made me feel even worst coz i couldn't go swimming or play vball coz i busted my lower back again!!! wtf man... of all days. but i'm just afraid that this will happen in the army. once it heals i'm going to do everything i can do strengthen it. running and reverse crunches, the 2 most convenient methods i can think of. pullups a bit hard lah, my area no pullup bars nearby. the fact tt i couldn't play vball just screwed up my day man hahaha but after that it was all ok. thanks to mr kwee for the dinner, now that i know he reads my blog, to my absolute surprise.
tomorrow got badminton, but i doubt my back will be any better by then. SIANZ!!! next 2 weeks intensive exercise for me man. since my back's still in pain, i'll just do my pushups 1st. doubt can do crunches, so will wait for it to get better. but must sleep earlier and wake up earlier, no matter how difficult it may be. must slowly get my body accustomed now. like i always say... better to suffer now when i have a nice bed and aircon then when on tekong when u have mosquitoes and barking dogs.

iced mickey and contemplation...
watched disney on ice with wendy on saturday. the last time i watched it was with my family when i was... really really young hahaha can't remember a single thing that happened the last time i watched it. but this one was really quite nice :) although the food there was extravagantly overpriced, like 6 bucks for a hotdog, but what other way for 7-11 to make money aye... hungry kids who will beg their parents to buy food and toys for them hahaha was it worth 51 bucks? in some ways yes... coz there were some pretty big chunks that brought me back to the past, where we lived off pinnochio and aladdin, and kids nowadays only got nemo and incredibles hahaha we got ALL OF THEM!!! poor kids heehee
yesterday after church rushed down to harbourfront to eat my lunch, then went to sentosa for vball. payed 5 bucks per person for a green band. wth man... clementi is so much cheaper and worth it. u got your own court, your ball won't fly too far away (provided you don't hit it over the fence), the sand is softer, and you can play without people trying to chase you away! the only thing that one could say was missing is the atmosphere, because there's no sea and stuff, but the sun is still there, so one could still get a tan, so i don't know why people are always making so much noise about simply not having the atmosphere. if you wanna play you'd play anywhere. as long as there's a net and a ball, i'd play, simple as that.
but sadly, some people only like to play with people whom they deem as "good enough". yes some people are less skilled then you, but that's because not everyone has been playing volleyball since secondary school, and not everyone plays every week like you. when people don't play up to your "expectations", you give them this black face that makes people want to slap you. i mean, the game is there to be played, and maybe we're not your great friends, but that doesn't mean you have the right to look down on other people and not want them to play with you. obviously you're missing the core element of volleyball at YOUR standard. you aren't that good either u know. there are many other people who are better than you. and i don't care whether you want me to play with you or not, but as long as there's a volleyball flying through the air, i will play.
oh and miss germaine ng... i don't mean to offend you or anything hoh... all just for fun yeah? :) if i take it too far at any point just tell me lah alright? WORK HARDER LAH U!!! hahaha
bang... we seriously need to talk man. msg me when u next book out... i'll go over to your place, but we REALLY need to talk.
tags:
tini: yah lah! i would've asked you along except i know u're always working nowadays, so how can you play???
don: badminton? yesterday i was at sentosa man... this wednesday night i'll be free though. but not thursday night.

vball in the heartlands... surrounded by kids...
played some "beach" volleyball in clementi today with bang, wendy and soph. the reason why there are inverted commas around the word beach is because there IS no beach, just a plot of really, really soft sand. now the sand is nice when u're walking on it, because your feet really don't hurt, BUT THEN... when the sand is soft, it makes it alot harder to run and jump hahaha only managed to jump towards the end of the whole thing. if there were more people on the court it would be alot easier. guess it would take a while for the sand to be pressed down and for it to be harder.
but then, the main highlight of the day was not the volleyball, or the "beach", or the lack of sun (again...), but by the fact that we were playing volleyball with kids between the age of 3 and 13? i would say it's around there. the oldest was in sec 1, which means 13, and the youngest could barely walk properly, so i'm guessing about 3 or 4. i say he could barely walk because he was perpetually rolling around in the sand the entire time hahaha and these kids were all malay, no indians, no chinese. but i could tell... these kids were just enjoying their youth man. running around, playing with the sand, and wrestling each other in the sand. only problem was... there were some vulgarities flying around between the kids... now that was something quite scary. and there was this small kid who was doing this really dirty dance shouting "yeah baby yeah baby" most of the time, with even the michael jackson crotch grab motion going... future clubber lah. too bad he left before soph got here, otherwise she might've just brought him to club with her or something hahaha but it was an interesting experience, because i've never ever been surrounded by so many kids before, some of them even trying to play rugby with me hahaha and somehow... bang looked like them coz of his botak head :p don't ask me why... but he just did on the opposite court. oh well... he's going to have fun with his new posting hahaha (he requested that i don't mention it)
anyway a few more details on utc 2006. i actually helped the sec 3s to plan their campfire, because somehow it got passed to me from ronald. don't really remember how, because it happened damn quickly hahaha but anyway... the actual campfire was prepared mostly by us CIs, damn sad case, but then we made an astonishing new discovery! and that is... diesel is cheaper then kerosene, and is better when used on firewood!!! hahaha all these years we were wasting money on kerosene which was so difficult to get, when we had a petrol station right next door where we could get diesel!!! 12 litres for 13 bucks man! if that's not a good price i don't know what is. ok maybe u don't fully appreciate what i'm saying here... but let's just say we used to get alot less kerosene for a higher price, yeah.
when dismissal parade came, i didn't have this overwhelming sense of sadness (can't think of a better word now) that i thought i would have, since it was my final unit camp after all. really couldn't figure out why... but i came up with a few reasons. either i've lost the passion already, and therefore feel nothing when i'm witnessing the end of my final unit camp, or i didn't expect myself to be here when i left last year after AP. i think it's a bit of both. for one, i thought i'd be in the army by now, for two (nice english there), throughout the camp, there was a lack of motivation on my part. last time i would just go go go... now i would rest go rest. couldn't keep myself going lah. some things have expiry dates, and maybe i've passed mine a long while ago...

derek: at least u get to enjoy your 1.5 years with all the CS weapons u thought u'd never see or touch hahaha

glenn: yeah FINALLY hanging up the blue and moving on to green. well in a sense we were always green, if u know what i mean

my 7th UTC
i still remember my 1st utc in sji npcc. there were only sec 1s and 4s, and they grouped us according to our size hahaha so there were 3 groups. the small, medium, and large. i was in the large group lah, coz of height. then we had damn girly group names, can't remember what they are, but i remembered we changed it in the end, coz we were all complaining hahaha and of course, got whacked like mad lah. after eating a damn filling breakfast because we had to finish ALL the food, we went back to our bunks, and got pumped. bloody hell my stomach felt like shit man, will never forget that feeling.
that was 7 years ago. now, it's the end. unlikely that i'll ever help out at camps anymore. camps are a completely different feeling from just normal weekly trainings. you can really push the cadets to the limits, and by the 2nd night, can see them really shagged out. but from experience, you'll only come out a better person lah. but this camp, the really sad thing was the sec 4s. i was impressed by the sec 2s, proud of the sec 3s, but totally disappointed by the sec 4s. had to wake up early on the last day of camp to "wake them up". i must say it was too late, should've done it on the second morning. but better late than never. while brendan, ben and ronald went on... i stood there silent for most of the time, then at the end spoke to them about life as a whole, not just np. hopefully whatever i said had an impact on them, but for sure, whatever we ALL said had an impact on them, because on the last day they were finally working!!! but then again... if it only lasted for that last day, then obviously it didn't work that well. we'll leave that for them to settle, now ben, bren and me... are finally done.
it's really been a blast being with them both for 7 years. even though we don't really talk much to each other, we can still work together, there's still a sense of trust in each other, and i hope somehow we can work together again in the future. thanks guys... great fun filled times and crappy times spent with u through training. cheers! :)

my hands feel tied...
just came back from my trip to cut my hair, have a meeting at sji and get my final paycheck. so now i got money, shorter hair, and a very saddening feeling of helplessness.
had a little meeting with mr lee, mr sim and this new teacher mr tang. if u ask me he looks a little blur, but i guess i will find out more during utc. but looking at the sec 3s and 4s today, i felt a little bit of heartache. mainly because... i don't know what has happened. along the way we've obviously lost grip of something, and either didn't notice, or didn't give a damn. but i think it all started with us CIs. that is because... we are always the ones talking the most, we are the ones with more experience than the ncos, and obviously the cadets will learn from us more than the ncos! and as for the present sec 4s, i think it all started when they were sec 1, which is when i was in sec 4. might be a little confusing to you, but it's all perfectly clear to me. this is really, the ultimate last chance for me to do anything to help the unit that has helped me so much. but yet thinking about it on the way to the hotel and on the way home, i'm kinda clueless as to how to help the present sec 3s.
i've figured there's nothing much i can do to help the sec 4s now than to advise them on things that they have already done, and hope that they learn from there. but the sec 3s, can tell that there is still this bunch of people who aren't as playful and therefore I AM NOT GOING TO GIVE UP!!! but the only problem is their names lah. not been back to unit seriously for... 1 year? more than that i think! so gotta pick up their names fast, and work on them during camp. but... what can i say to them that we haven't been saying for the past 3 years of their np career? i mean obviously it hasn't been working, so they need something new, something fresh to inspire them, and i need to think of that something really fast.
for glory, for honour, for sji npccwhat's done is done...

1 month more...
time now... 3.40pm. date... march 8. in a month's time, april 8, 3.45pm, will be the day i'm shipped off to tekong hahaha life will change. for better or worst? i'm not sure, but life definitely will change. then i'd probably realise how much i've taken for granted the time i have now, but i'm slowly doing more and more productive things. there are many things i still want to do, but i'm just not too sure how to go about doing some of them =X whatever it is... one month more to do whatever i want to do, and one more month before i become a "man" (in singaporean terms)

that's all folks...
excuse me if i'm not making much sense, coz i just woke up, and since i feel like blogging i thought i better :p finally completed 12 years of stringent MOE madhouse style of education. at psle i was sad, at o levels i was overjoyed, and now at a levels, i'm satisfied. quite averaged out don't u think? but still... the one sad thing is that, we worked so hard for 12 years, which is 2 out of 3 parts of our lives thus far, and all we got is 3 slips of paper, each determining where we can go and what we can do for the next part of our lives. and unfortunately, this latest slip of paper will determine what we can and cannot do for the REST of our lives, however long, or short, it may be.
so like i was saying, i am satisfied with the results i got, considering i got FOE for prelims, and now jumped to ABC. it's like right at the other end of the scale hahaha but things kind of got switched around a little but. at prelims, maths F, econs O, physics E. now... maths B, econs A, physics C. none of them stayed in the same place lah hahaha and our class got 5 As for econs!!! mr kwee couldn't believe it, and so couldn't i :p but poor mr tay didn't get any As. mr ho got a couple i guess. ms fernandez got none too, but apparently we did the best of her 3 gp classes, so that's good enough i guess.
alot of people didn't do as well as expected, and it's at times like this that i feel quite helpless. not for myself, but for them, especially bang. he worked hard man... he did study. but then he just had too many distraction around him. that's one of the reasons why i stopped going to pine grove to study. i tried to warn him about being distracted by the other people who had less important exams in the study lounge, but he still went there, and at that stage i didn't know what to do. maybe i should've tried harder to warn him and encourage him to study somewhere else, away from all these distractions. maybe this is one of the times when i wasn't there for my buddy. maybe i should've have sacrificed a bit to help him realise how important this was, and maybe it would've helped me too. but such things... we'll never know. but bang, don't give up yeah? i never knew you to be one who gave up, so keep on fighting and believe in yourself, like you always have, and you'll be fine. don't think u'll be reading this anytime soon but... jiayou man. i'm always still a few busstop away :)
